How to turn off Smart App Control in Windows 11
Due to recent Windows 11 updates and its security system, some Spatial Manager™ for GstarCAD files or the installation may be incorrectly blocked. We are working on a permanent solution; in the meantime, we recommend disabling this optional security feature, as it may also affect the execution of other applications.
Symptoms
- Install error: A Windows notification appears during the installation process indicating that the installation has been blocked.
- Execution error:
A Windows notification appears during execution indicating that a file has been blocked, followed by possible missing features or in-app errors:
- TYPE: System.DllNotFoundException.
- MESSAGE: Could not load file or assembly. An Application Control policy has blocked this file. (0x800711C7)
Solutions
Please follow these steps:
Option 1: Navigate manually
- Click Start and open Settings.
- Go to Privacy & security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Click Open Windows Security.
- In the Windows Security window, select App & browser control.
- Click Smart App Control settings.
- Select Off to disable Smart App Control.
Option 2: Quick access using Start menu search
- Click Start.
- Type Smart App Control.
- Select Smart App Control settings from the results.
- Choose Off to disable it.
Reinstall
After changing the configuration, reinstalling Spatial Manager™ for GstarCAD may be required.
Important Notice
- Depending on your Windows 11 version, once Smart App Control is turned off, it may not be possible to turn it back on without resetting or reinstalling Windows. However, in recent versions, this limitation has been removed and the feature can be toggled on or off at any time.
- On managed (work) devices, this setting may be controlled by your organization and could be unavailable or grayed out.
- The names of menus, options, and search terms may vary depending on the operating system language.

- Certain features require Internet access. If you experience issues, check with your network administrator about a possible Proxy server. You can configure the Proxy settings in the application options.
